September 18th 2012: Ragwort & Rainbows.

Up early, cups of tea & coffee, before setting off for Ullapool to catch the 10.25 a.m. Ferry to Stornoway.

The drive up was spectacular, swathes of ragwort, a deep navy sky illuminating the brilliant greens of the turning trees which stood out almost fluorescent against the mountain backdrop.

And there's already snow on them thar hills folks! Looked wonderful from the road but served as a reminder of what we have to come in the not too distant future......

Fun in the Fisherman's Cooperative; local kippers (breakfasts), smoked ling (with couscous, tomorrow?) but sadly no scallops but we live in hope of there being some for the scallops with ginger & soba noodles.

John walked Teinis in Lewis Castle grounds whilst Marg & I hauled our trolley round the supermarket then departed the Metropolis & made our way to Croir over the Pentland Road with distant views of the Harris hills, silhouetted against a pearly sky.
Nor's fish pie gets better with every supper party (& I get a night off cooking )

so we're now winding down with a drink before creeping into bed with our various books.

It's wonderful to be back among majestic scenery, the sound of the sea & friends & neighbours who always extend such a warm welcome.

More in our next...
